NEW RECORD SET FOR CRUDE OIL UNLOADED IN SIOT TERMINAL
else: ?>Trieste, 19 January 2018 – TAL – SIOT Group, the company that manages the main European pipeline that from Trieste supplies energy to Germany, Austria and Czech Republic, has closed year 2017 setting a new record in terms of crude oil unloaded, as announced today by President of TAL Group, Alessio Lilli. “In 2017 – said Lilli – we celebrated 50 years of activity of our pipeline: the best ending to these celebrations comes from the performance of our infrastructure, and in particular from the new record set for the amount of crude oil unloaded and transported in a sustainable way from Trieste to the centre of Europe”.
In 2017, 502 tankers berthed in the Port of Trieste and 42.4 million tonnes of crude oil were unloaded: the performances achieved confirm the role of TAL Group pipeline as the main terminal operator in the Port of Trieste; the amount unloaded in 2017 recorded 900 thousand tonnes more than 2014, when the previous record was set in terms of crude oil unloaded in the Marine Terminal. These results confirm that Tal Group facility is the leading oil terminal in the Mediterranean and in 50 years of activity it has unloaded 1.4 billions of tonnes of crude oil.
“The energy market – said TAL Group President Alessio Lilli – has revealed a constant increase in raw material demand: European industrial production needs energy, and TAL Group pipeline is today the most efficient facility transporting crude oil to the refineries in the heart of Europe”.
In 2017, TAL Group spent money for investments and maintenance, a total of 47.6 million euros; with reference to 2018, Lilli has confirmed the large-scale investments in the maintenance and upgrading plan of the plant, amounting to around 50 million euros.
The new record for crude oil unloaded has a direct impact on the economy of the territory of Trieste, not only in terms of an increase in port taxes (i.e. 7 million euros in 2017) and tax revenues, but above all in terms of port services dedicated to the oil tankers. The multinational company has 221 direct employees in Europe (119 in Italy, 78 in Germany and 24 in Austria) and over six hundred people in linked industries.
In 2017 TAL Group among other works, completed an important project on the line along the Tagliamento river to ensure safety of the riverbed. In 2018 two plant upgrading and improvement works have been planned: the valves system in San Dorligo della Valle tank farm and the relocation of the lines at the Marine Terminal.
